How can you possibly make $1000 selling books online in just 7 days?
It’s simple. Just find 100 books that you can sell for $10 each.
Still sounds impossible? Here’s a true story:
Back in 1999, I was still working for a high tech company, but I was already involved in selling online in my free time. Back then, Craigslist wasn’t really as well known, and I used to find a lot of great stuff there to resell on Ebay.
One particular time, I had just acquired 25 books from a craigslist posting, when I got a very interesting email. It was one of your standard spammy-type emails, you know the kind, it said something like ““make x number of dollars by selling the items you’ve purchased from Amazon.” That email was what first led me to create a seller account on Amazon.
I listed those 25 books on Amazon and the very next day had 7 sales. I made about $150 on those 7 books. That’s when I really knew that this was a good way to make some money.
As you could guess, I was able to acquire unwanted books from my fellow employees and pickings from other sources were very good.
Now, I didn’t make $1000 in 7 days that first week. But I know if you were determined and really concentrated on it you could do it.
Back then it was pretty much trial and error, but now there are resources like this blog that can bring you up to speed with sellers like me who have been at it for ten years. I’ve told you everything from where to find books to how to avoid running afoul of Amazon.
Granted, the book selling environment is a little different than it was ten years ago. But honestly, it isn’t outside realm of possibility that by going to thrift stores, garage sales, library sales, etc., you could make $1,000 in 7 days.
All you need to do is find a hundred books you can sell for ten bucks each, or two hundred you can sell for five, etc.
It’s possible. Use the resources on this blog, and if you have any other questions at all, leave a comment on this post and I’ll try and answer it in an upcoming post.

How has your strategy changed over the years in regards to finding new inventory?
How is it possible to make that much money when there are so many books selling for a penny on Amazon?
Great post!
Actually, my strategy hasn’t changed really, although where I end up actually finding books has. Like I talked about in the post A Book Buyer’s Secret: Finding Used Books a lot of it is about who you know. Over the years, it’s become easier as I’ve grown larger and developed a reputation and relationships with key people.
Well, the first step is to know where to find books cheap. Check out “Selling Books Starts With Buying Books” for more info on that.
Then it’s important to know which books you are going to be able to make money on. For new sellers, lookup tools and scanners can really help with letting you know what books will sell and for how much.
Finally, understand how it is that penny sellers make their money (and how slim their profit margins actually are). More info on that here.
